John Edwards: Not quitting on his dreams

December 28th 2006 19:31
seriously, i thought that after this defeat in 2004, john edwards would go back to being a lawyer, take care of his family and be away from public life. but then yesterday his website delivered news that he going to run again, this time for president.

i was suprised. i mean he has served just one term on the senate, doens't have a long political hsitory to back his bid. but then with the rise of other novice like Barack Obama, it seems like the public is more accepting of less experienced candidates.

one, they come with less baggage and short list of people seeking "favours", also they are in position to take risks and make dramatic changes. the other working for these "newbies" is that their public image is still pretty much "clean", i mean not tainted with stories of misdees during long years in office etc.

from what i see, edward's bid is not as strong as Obama, he lacks the star power and appeal. comparing him with Clinton, i see why some people will choose him oer her. he is a clean slate, Clinton has too much baggage.

public mood seems to be looking for a drasatic change, something fresh and new. i won't be surpised to see "Obama Edwards 2008"

what do u think?

Not being in the US, my knowledge of politics is not that in-depth, but I do find the presidential race interesting.

I think John Edwards probably sees the 2004 defeat as the result of being paired with the rather unlikeable John Kerry.
I definitely think he is in with a chance. He is not as divisive as Hillary, though he doesn't have the rock-star vibe that Obama has. I think the public is more accepting of those with less experience because they want somewhat of an outsider - someone who is not part of the old boy's club, and hasn't been there long enough to become complacent or corrupted.

He is, isnt he? Yes. I do love him though. I think hes done some wonderful things for the country and WorkChoices is some fine legislation. It does, however, assume that all Australians are hardworking, which is far from true.

I like the way the Liberal Federal Government deals with money, unlike the wasteful and - dare I say it? - mercenary Labour State Government.

Please tell me, who is John Edwards and Obama?

Hi Bhumika,

I think the American public is getting jaded with career politicians. There's an allure with these guys, something that resonates and earlier time in our history when people went into politics to serve more than just themselves.

We'll see. Great post!
