Is America ready for a gay president?
April 28th 2007 19:17
Although the US constitution says that all citizens are equal regardless of age, sex, religion or political belief, homosexuals or gay people are not treated equally. This may be because of religious beliefs or social pressure. In light of this, if someone comes up to me asks "Is America Ready for a Gay President", I would have to say, with sadness, NO.
Why? America is not ready for a gay president because the society still has deep seated bias against gay people. It may not be intentional in some cases but because of years and years of prejudice the discrimination and negative attitude is still there. Some people justify the discrimination on basis of their religious belief.MORE

that would be my response into that question and i don't think it'll ever be acceptable in the states because of the powerful religious right. it would be nice to see a president (not to mention an australian prime minister) that is out of the white anglo/christian mould but it ain't happening soon.

In answer to your post I would have to say no, purely becuase Americans haven't even had a Female or Black President yet - now I am no officiando on US Politics, but one would think th American public would vote in candidates of these two sterotypes before electing one from the homosexual community - I wonder how a Black, Lesbian President would go down in the US?
Anyway, my actual reason for leaving a comment is that I was searching through various Freelanced sites for contract work, and I came across this advert that may or may not interest you. I have no idea of what you do for a living, but I thought I would provide a link for you to check out another cash supply source.

Now I am not trying to take away from your Orble trafiic / earnings here, but I just saw it as a chance to help a fellow Orbler out in the short term.
Cheers,

Absolutely with Damo on this one ... why shoudl it matter?
Merit alone and policy, global warming, ending wars and proper use of public money's ... these are the things that matter in my eyes... mind you, it would be funny to see the president kissing his male partner on the Dias... actually, do you know what? I think it would be refreshing and probably make me feel that there, at least, is one less hypocrisy in the world.
Great Question!

It's an easy scapegoat 'I'm gay therefore I can't', though Obama has proven you can be black and get into congress and run for president, Ellison proved you can be black and a Muslim and get into congress, if theres a gay man who can run for political office because he's competent then he will, obviously he won't get in if he's in the southern states but neither do Democrats ever and thats another matter entirely.
Though in all seriousness I hate how some gay *men* try to claim welfare intended for women, well thats what one gay man did, trying to get 'war widows' pension. I don't care if he's gay or not, he isn't eating up my money or knocking on my door trying to kiss me, I'll leave him be, but I don't like the idea of him touching my tax dollars because he likes the idea of getting paid as if he were a woman, fact of the matter is he is a man and should as a man pucker up and find a job, thats what men do and saying you're gay so you can't work is like saying you're black so you have to work at a farm. Doesn't add up.
Then again that goes back to the whole issue of equality between men and women and goes even further back to the fact I have a habit of off topic often times.

these talks about non issues is frankly insulting to the candidates..but it goes on..

It's also silly to say "I'm a woman so I can't work." Why don't you just pucker up and find a job? War widows pensions should either be abolished, or equally available to all spouses, including men who lose their wives at war as that does happen.
