Citizen Activism Will Fill The Void Of Judicial Activism !
Political leaders cutting across party lines have welcomed the observation of Supreme Court Of India about the so called “Judicial Activism”.This will be an ideal scenario for our leaders as they would fear none now and would be free to behave and act in anarchic and chaotic ways. Now onwards money and muscle power would rule the roost;bureaucrats would amass obscene amounts of wealth;environment rules would be dumped;illegal colonies would sprout everywhere;human rights would be violated and our leaders would keep patronizing these activities shamelessly.
Had it not been for the judiciary,Delhi would have converted itself into a slum city by now.In spite of being the capital of India, there is more corruption here than any of the so-called backward states.Even a small boy selling balloons or some cheap toys around India Gate or at the numerous Red light crossings has to share his profits with the police and New Delhi Municipal Corporation(NDMC ) officials.Same is the case with Ice Cream vendors who charge extra from their customers to feed these corrupt officials. There are hundreds of vendors and so it's any body's guess that how much these officials would be earning daily. If this is the extent of corruption on the Rajpath-connecting India Gate with Rhastrapati Bhawan, then imagine the situation prevailing elsewhere. Now the officials can live in peace as the apex court is unlikely to give them directions to spare those kids who are eking out their living by labouring hard.
It is almost impossible to go to the Sadar Bazar or other old Delhi markets as the roads are encroached upon by the shopkeepers and whatever narrow patch is there, that is not motor-able.Police encourage and facilitate these encroaches in order to milk them monthly. These are simple facts, not rocket science, and is known to every body except the politicians and the officials.
What is called judicial activism is just the disgust shown by the court. When the situation become alarming, only then did the court intervene and ask the government to deliver. It is unimaginable that Delhi would have even thought of alternative fuels like CNG if the court had not directed the Govt. to do so.Similarly whole of the Yamuna Bed would have been awarded to greedy builders .
Even if the court constrains itself to only judicial matters, there will no respite for the politicians now.The average people have got new platform where they can expose corruption and ever increasing governmental malpractice and malfunctioning.Platforms like "Meri News"have provided power to the people where they can exercise their word power to their general belief. Also, unlike the traditional media, it is not unduly obsessed with macro level policy initiative.Micro level stories, experienced by the individuals for whom policies are formulated in any way,are given the space too .As the citizens become more vigilant, it would be increasingly difficult to overlook their concern. Will these politicians manage to put strongholds on these initiatives too? They will unite and try to strangulate or do something for sure. They have perfected the art of managing the conventional media as per their needs and whims. But they can't manage the thousands of Citizen Journalists" spread over all over the world from writing from their hearts.
