A Comprehensive Guide to the World of Office Politics

A Rough Profile Of Indian Politicians !

November 22nd 2007 02:45
If everything that is wrong with our country is attributed to the
politicians and they are looked down upon by multitudes, that is not
just cynicism. There are profound reasons behind such impressions
.Politicians are aware of these perceptions too and have got
accustomed to live with it.Some of them are bothered about their image
but many just don't acknowledge that they are widely perceived as
the "devil".A politician of any sort, is always surrounded by
hangers-on, who ensure that his ego is kept inflated by justifying
all his deeds, citing precedents and the means adopted by fellow
politicians.Being in politics is like running a huge company where- in
hundreds of people are needed to be taken care of. The operational
cost is huge and is managed with the help of these hangers-on who are
mostly contractors, middlemen, criminals and aspiring politicians.
There are several kinds of politicians across our country. Some are
seasoned and have been with a certain party for his ideological
leanings. Some just follow the family tradition and occupy the halo
even if they are the most undeserving. Some erstwhile
kings, princes,Queens and feudal lords keep politicking to remain in
power somehow. Some criminals become politicians to evade the
police. Some professionals are given their political berth in
recognition of the value of the services rendered by them. Some others
are brought into politics for the purpose of crowd pulling. Some
businessmen use their wealth to enter into politics. There are others
still who become politicians after taking care of personal chores of
some party big-wigs.
There are thousands of ordinary political workers who spend their
whole lives working but fail to get elected for one reason or
another. And there are many who find it ridiculously easy to become
even the members of Parliament. Anil Ambani,Jaya
Bachhan,Govinda,Dharmendra,Sa dhu Yadav and many entered into politics
without much effort on their part. That is the reason perhaps that Anil
Ambani chose to resign as he was beginning to be bracketed along with
a certain political force.Govinda and Dharmendra are just biding their
time.It is enough to be brother-in-law of Lalu Prasad Yadav to become
a member of Parliament. Though his third brother-in-law was not so
lucky.
There are many politicians who, riding the wave, become MLA,MLC,MP or
get at the helm of any state run corporation and grow in stature as
the time passes by.It is a very well known fact in the hinterland that
many politicians simply take their 30% cut upfront in cash and
entrust the funds meant for MPs and MLAs to the contractors whom they
trust completely. That is the reason why even 10 % of that fund is not
utilised properly.By the end of the term these leaders have already
amassed sufficient funds to splurge in the next elections!
Elections are becoming costly affairs and many regional parties ensure
the candidates financial capabilities before awarding him the ticket
to contest them.Once elected, these leaders exploit their position
completely and with the connivance of the ever willing officials,
divert the greater chunk of funds elsewhere. To be honest, none of
these leaders pretend to be in politics for social service. They are
here to gain power and influence and are dismayed over the misplaced
expectations from them. They don't take the blame that corruption
emanates from them; on the contrary they accuse the corrupt system and
bureaucracy for any failure.
Leaders like Sonia Gandhi,L.K.Advani,Prakash Karat must be aware of
these facts but they have done nothing yet to change things. The
president of BJP was seen accepting money, still he is very much an
integral part of the party. He is just an example and majority of
politicians would be doing the same, only that they are have not been
caught yet. Barring the left parties and the top leaderships of
important parties, most politicians are embodiments of corruption. Will
they ever mend their ways and allow some funds meant for the poor and
underprivileged,to reach the desired destination?
