The Masterstroke Of Lalu P.Yadav
February 29th 2008 11:14
Everything went according to the script and Lalu Prasad Yadav can now afford to admire his "masterstroke"Railway Budget. He did everything the same way he does on the Budget "eve".Journalists were invited in the morning at his residence and the rustic Lalu's charm was beaming across channels. The whole day he kept giving interviews to journalists and lapped the world attention fixed on him immensely.
The initial reaction of the budget was as per expectation. But this euphoria soon evaporated when the fine prints were analysed and meaning between the lines were revealed.
Lalu Prasad Yadav had anticipated all these reactions and was prepared for that also.He maintains an excellent relation with the press and uses them to the hilt for his advantage.Camera never lies and that was evident when Deepak Chaurasia was caught signaling to overstep a question which was bothering Lalu throughout the day."Why a tatkal ticket is available so much is advance which defeats the very purpose of the scheme" ,was asked by a guest audience and as per previous understanding, Chaurasia was trying to bypass this bothersome question when his gesture was caught and as the programme was live, many people would have come to know how these powerful politicians "manage" the media.
Lalu had done his homework very well and as per his shrewd strategy included insignificant things in his budget. He even included the passenger trains in the list that showed his blatant bias towards Bihar.Usually these types of decisions are taken by the division level authorities but Lalu wanted this message to spread far and wide.
He virtually emancipated thousands of porters from age old slavery and received much praise for this benevolent act. But these were all routine affairs and Lalu was not bothered about them.
Lalu has lost every election recently and he no longer enjoys the support of minorities. The continued good work of Nitish Kumar's government has exposed Lalu and his era is generally being considered the "dark age" of Bihar.
Lalu Yadav needed something which would create hysteria and forgive him of his previous sins.Somebody must have told him about Lalit Narayan Mishra, who is still idolised for his work in Bihar. As a matter of fact L.N.Mishra had just introduced a few trains and created a loop line that endeared him to the masses of "Mithila.
Lalu prepared a blueprint to win over the masses and carefully crafted the strategy. But P.Chidambram was proving a spoilsport. So it is said that Lalu refused to print the budget unless his plan related to Bihar was passed in toto. After the intervention of Sonia Gandhi,Lalu had his way and he was able to deliver the masterstroke, finally.
Nobody in his wildest dreams would have thought that there would be a railway line along the flood-prone Indo-Nepal border. The new lines between Sitamadi-Jaynagar-Nirmally cover a very wide area and Lalu has overnight become the 'vikas purush' here.Similarly Lalu has approved gauge conversion and new lines at other places also. There are numerous rivers criss crossing this region, so it was unthinkable that there could be some announcement in that regard.Lalu yadav is dead serious about these projects and he wants to do as much work as possible before the next general election. To make it faster,Lalu is seeking similar legal provision available to National Highway Authority Of India,in order to acquire land without any inordinate delay.
Every year people of these districts suffer from flood and this is the first time that someone has listened to their demands and fulfilled their wishes. This masterstroke has given Lalu a new lease of life and he will garner at least fifteen parliamentary seats from this masterstroke. How will Nitish Kumar counter this will be interesting to observe.
