A Political Mind - September 2006

I am in middle or a research on Afghan women and not surprised to fin out that they are still living in fear and repression.

The Afghan journalist I interviewed said to me that, "Girls schools are being burnt in the night in provinces and teachers are warned through night letter, not to attend schools. Only four days back, letters were distributed in Kapisa province, situated some 40 kilometers north of the central capital Kabul, warning women to stay at homes instead of attending offices. They were issued death threats. Provincial officials told this scribe, majority of women employees of NGOs and government did not attend their offices after the threats." This is five years after the US invaded the country promising a rosy future for every one. I guess they forgot all about Afghan women. What else explains the lack of effort in insuring women's rights??

I have been writing on Afghan women for a while and every time I hear about child brides or honor killings or women being forced to live behind the veil I feel like punching everyone who supports this war. Like the conservatives, boy!! We have lot of them here in US. They are happy to label all those who do not support this war are "terrorist sympathizers” but fail to see that the war is not giving us any results.

The main point of the declassified intelligence report is now available at CNN.com. Here are some of the key points:

#number of Muslims jihadists is increasing in number and are widely dispersed

#democratic and open government system in Muslims countries would help to decrease the number of extremists

#Europe is fast becoming a prime target for the jihadists. Large numbers of Muslims immigrants in the region are vulnerable to the recruiting drive launched by the jihadists

#Iraq war is helping to the increase in the jihadist movement world wide

Ok so now President Bush is declassifying a LEAKED intelligence report which says that Iraq war has increased the terrorist risks for the US. Why? In my understanding he is trying to stop the wave of disagreement on Iraq war.

Will it help? No. Because the people don't have to rely on some Intelligence report to know that war in Iraq in increasing risks for the US. It is common sense. You go an attack a nation and expect to be secure, NO A CHANCE!!. So declassifying the report will not help turn the tide. Sorry

Mid term elections are knocking at the door, so this step is significant (don't worry about making sense). This administrating is trying every thing to insure people that they are the best thing that happened to US after McDonalds!! They are trying to get the votes in November by telling people that Iraq war is justified and is helping on what on terror. Whatever.

But are the people listening? No. The polls show that large section of the population is against Iraq war, they feel that the war is adding to insecurity and hatred against America. One can only wish the government would listen to the people.

Is Uzbekistan the next Afghanistan?

September 25th 2006 03:16
Is it..? Is Uzbekistan the next Afghanistan..? I am forced to ask this question after observing some serious trends in the country.

In my news report for OhMyNews.com, I have explained my observations. The country's repressive regime is forcing to radical Islam. The people who are denied freedom of expression, civil rights see Islam as the only way out. And the Saudi Wahhabi, flush with cash, are using this desperation to bring people to the radical version of Islam

US should get out of Iraq NOW

September 24th 2006 02:40
Today New York Times reported that the troubles in Iraq are adding to terror threats in US. It says that the global spread of terrorism is growing rapidly instead of subsiding.

Well kind of late finding I must say. You go and invade a sovereign country and expect the people to welcome with bouquets. No going to happen. And it did not happen in Iraq. I don't care whether their President was a tyrant or not. You cannot shame the people; you cannot go into a sovereign country to establish your way. You will fail. This is what is happening in Iraq. Sad but true. US mission has failed and failed miserably

Hezbollah's leader Nasarallah's speech today in Beruit claiming victory over Israel is a sign. Sign of days to come where Israel will be dueling with this group, strengthened by the recent conflict.

So what about peace between Israel and Lebanon..? Well it is like wishing for snow in summer, not impossible but doesn't happen often. Strong Hezbollah means Leabnon's government will not be able to contain the group and its actions. If tomorrow they go into Israel and do something criminal, Lebanon's government will not be able to get to the culprit. If this escaltes to an all out conflict like in August of this year, it is Hezbollah Vs. Israel. Bad for Lebanon and bad for Israel

Decoding Hugo Chavez

September 22nd 2006 02:25
The President of Venezuela created quite a stir with his antics and fiery speech at the UN General Assembly meet yesterday. Comparing President Bush to a "devil" is something, considering the fact that he was standing in American soil when he made that announcement. No official comment from White House yet but the Democrats are apparently not too happy about this.

According to news report in CNN, some democrats are not happy that Mr. Chavez called Bush a "devil". Why? Is it because he said that before they did or is it because he is trying to get ahead of them in "Bush bashing". Anyway, let’s get back to Mr. Chavez. He is vocal opponent of US and the allies and has no apology for being so. Iran and Cuba are his best friends and he believes that with their help (and with the oil money) he can topple US from its position as the world’s leader. Hmm, lets see if that can really happen.
